Somewhere Back In The Long Ago
Sorry, I posted this originally in the wrong place. Can any of you dedicated gamers out there recommend a game that will really show off my new iMac (see specs. in sig. file)

I like sci-fi shooters like Dead Space (which I have on my iPad) Doom and the like.

Not into playing on-line as I seem to be dead in 5 seconds flat :)

Something with a plot, and shooting action would be good. I Loved the Max Payne series, and Fear (have the whole collection) but can't seem to find anything that fit's the bill for the mac.

I don't want to go down the bootcamp route as I hate Windows and it's not going on this iMac!!!

All suggestions gratefully received :)

It's a shame you don't want to use bootcamp, since most of the games that will make use of good graphics are on windows.

I'd recommend you install bootcamp to play Crysis 2... it's a sci-fi shooter with a good story, and fantastic graphics!

Otherwise, starcraft 2 has a very well design campaign, you could check it out. The ultra graphics of SC2 are also very enjoyable. It's not a shooter, but heh, there's not that many games on MAC OS X.

Yup, I'd really put my money on crysis 2. I hate windows too, but I think it's worth it for the games... just make like a 80-90g partition and you'll have room for 2-3

Borderland and Fallout may please you too. They have sci-fi shooter action in a post-apocalyptic environment. I am yet to find a game that beats fallout 3 in terms of sand-box rpg style. They are both available for Mac I think.

Good games, played them both!! Sorry I forgot to put them on the list.

I know that bootcamp and a Windows installation is the way to go for games really, but I'm not a hard core gamer and this is just going to be a one off.

Just don't want Windows on this at all Seem to be a lot more offerings for iPad, and Dead Space is great on it...plays smoothly and is an all new plot.

Must be something (he hopes) :)

That's too bad hahaha, you really got a great computer for gaming.
You could always check the online steam store, there is a separate store for mac games. You might find something interesting there

Otherwise, games are likely to become more and more available for MAC OS X with the recent addition of the mac app store. It's a great way to publish games for mac users. I still think that apple needs to offer high class graphic cards for the MBP as an option. The one they use is good, but it's still only a middle-class graphic card. I'd like to get 2g of VRAM too ;)

I'm sure one day you'll succomb to bootcamp... I understand why you hate windows and everything, but you sincerily wouldn't loose anything from using it.

But heh, It's nice to know your iMac is pure :p

I guess I will have to be patient then because I'm not even tempted to go down the bootcamp road. Like you say, with the new Mac app store hopefully we will see a wider choice of games....Lot's for the iPad so I guess it's a question of time.

I have copies of Windows 7 64 bit and other bits and pieces in a cupboard from the bad old day's before I saw the light.

This iMac will NEVER have muck from MS soiling it's nice new hdd :D

Same spec iMac as me. Shame you won't go down the Bootcamp route. I've got loads of great games on my Steam account that look (and play) truly outstanding on this machine.

Just Cause 2
GTAIV
Super Street Fighter 4 AE
Crysis 1+2

I'd hate to be stuck using the Mac App Store and waiting for games to trickle through Steam for Mac!
