If anyone else is having password difficulties, I discovered a personal font in my main Sierra Font folder caused password boxes to improperly respond. Passwords entered correctly would be accepted, but the box remains blank. When I removed this one font and rebooted, the password boxes responded appropriately.

I don't remember where I got this font from years of graphic design.

I wonder if it's conflicting with Apple's San Francisco font (same font ID). You wouldn't have had such conflicts in prior OS releases since the SF system font is new.

I have spent 6 hours today, moving a few fonts into the main font folder and rebooting, then unlocking Privacy, relocking. I was just glad to find that the issue was a font conflict. I have faced this blank password box since installing Sierra the first day. I have wiped the drive clean and reinstalled from the internet and a CCC backup, nothing worked. Finally tried the font conflict aspect today.
