A possible solution to slow Airport problems?

As crazy as it sounds, I found that wireless speeds are *significantly better* when I did either of the following:

1) Removing the outer casing on my Mac Mini
2) Same as 1) except I further detach the airport antenna from the logic board, snake a small signal cable in through that air vent, and hook it up to a Cantenna

Either way both involves some kind of hardware hack, which raises the question, are the issues we are experiencing due to hardware, or is it really software only?

Or perhaps it is due to some issues with the software that manifests itself when the signal is less than ideal?

Thanks for the tip. I'm still thinking it can be fixed with a software issue.

Since I got my iMac my iBook has been having seemingly related wifi problems. If my iMac loses connection and wont reconnect, my iBook follows suit and I have to reset my router. I didnt have a problem before the iMac arrived, so to me that points to some sort of incompatibility quirk.

I'll be interested to know what the actual problem is anyway.
