So there is this lan cable that is attached to a powered lan point over here... and I am wondering what would happen if I connect my MacBook Pro to it. Would it do any damage? Or are power over ethernet ports compatible with everything else?

hhmmm not sure, id suggest using a pc first :p

OK to use

You can connect the power over Ethernet port to any device, including your Mac. The switch on the other end first detects if the device needs power to be sent down the wire before actually doing it.
