A product which does not meet my needs is a bad product

Thats not how I feel, but it is the general impression I get from people who are being critical of this device. I recognize that many of us love what Apple does as a company, but it's unrealistic to expect that every product will fit into our lifestyle.

For instance, I have a Macbook, and airport express, a bluetooth keyboard, an ipod touch and soon will have an ipad. These are the products which best work for my life and which I can find a use for. It would be silly of me to say that the new mac pros are too big and that the imac isn't expandable enough. Each product is designed to fit a particular need and if it meets our needs, then fanatastic. If it doesn't then no big loss, there are other products which likely do. Now if we can't even identify and articulate our needs, then we haven't got much right to complain about them not being met.

For me, the ipad is an ideal leisurely browsing and media device which I can also use for writing. Some might argue that my Macbook fills this role, and while I think it's a fantastic device, I value the compact form factor and ease of use of the ipad. Not to say that OSX is difficult (I've been using Apple computers since the Apple II), but I have come to adore the accessibility on my ipod touch of having the things I use most right there and just tapping them open.

So just to reiterate the initial point, if the ipad doesn't meet your needs, thats fine. Just don't take it personally.

I take it personally. Every Apple product must suit my personal needs. Otherwise, I won't have wants for it, and I must have wants for every Apple product. See my dilemma?

Someone is taking it personally. I just use products. I'm not an evangelist for them. I'm not trying to persuade anyone that they NEED this. I just think it's handy for me and 95% of the time will suit my purposes better than a full computer. Your mileage may vary.

Who are you to decide that this product doesn't fit anyone's needs? There are many people who have explained legitmate usages for the iPad and why it would be a better fit than a netbook or your beloved iPhone.

The only deluded person around here is you and those who share your sentiments. I can declare the iPhone doesn't fit into anyone's needs, and those who think it does are deluding themselves. But I wouldn't be anymore correct than you.

Grow up and get over yourself. You are approaching troll status.

I wanted one. I still want one. But I want it with a camera, at least one USB port, at least one ethernet port, the ability to play multi codec video and audio, handwriting recognition, voice recognition. I want the ability to multitask. I want to run non Apple approved software

Obviously the iPad is not for me. No complaints though, since all I would use it for is surfing while I'm in the bathroom.

Do I take it personally? Not a chance. I just think it is a piss poor product regardless of how well it sells.

I get what you are saying and to a certain extent it is true and I have seen alot of that in the last few days. However not everyone who criticizes the product does so because it doesn't fit their needs, you have to admit Apple got kind of lazy on this one as far as creativity is concerned. You can't make one of your products bigger and upgrade the software slightly then say its "revolutionary", "Magical" or whatever other word was thrown around in that keynote. And to be fair a lot of the hype was created outside of Apple and is no fault of theirs but they did present it like it was this amazing new device when they just took an old device and made it bigger.

I understand being irritated by the hyperbole, and perhaps some of the backlash is even justified based on that. It doesn't suit your needs now...just wait until a year from now (or perhaps only 3 months) when it will be able to do everything you never imagined due to 3rd party developers.

I love how people only think in the "Now". Thank God Steve isn't like you near sighted people.

Home automation (on a larger scale than the iPhone)
Medical applications
Design (interior, exterior)
Aviation
Point of sales
etc

And don't give me this "my iPhone does this" crap. While the iPhone is good, it does not allow for the full potential given the small screen real estate.

Just think forward people. Remember how people poo-poo'ed the iPhone in the beginning for lack of apps......
