I plan on buying the 40 gb version and doing streaming from my mbp but I was wondering how easy this is to set up. I have a linksys router that is a little old. Will I be able to stream from my mbp to my atv?
I don't plan on storing very much on it, that's why I'm going with the 40gb. And just out of curiosity (although it won't change my purchasing decision) can I use my ipod touch remote app to stream from my mbp?

You can stream just fine so long as your wireless works. You can also connect via ethernet.

I am not sure what you mean by streaming using your iPod Touch remote app. You can access your iTunes library through your iPod Touch as well as your Apple TV library if you have one. Whether your stream or store the remote app works the same afaik on ATV.

Ya... sorry I didn't make that clear. What I meant was, using the remote app connected to my atv, can I control what is streamed to the atv from my mbp? If that makes any sense at all...

If I am understanding what you are asking, you will be able to go into iTunes and select what will be synced to the :apple:TV from your MBP. You can either do the default "sync everything within iTunes" or "sync specific music/movies/photos from iTunes".

I just got mine a few hours ago and haven't had a whole lot of time to play with it, but so far it really seems like a slick little box.

that's almost what I mean but not quite. You can stream content from your mac onto your atv. There is an app on the ipod touch that lets you control what is played on the atv. I'm just not sure whether it can control streaming. Do you know whether you can do that?

Yes, it can do that. I just tried it out. As long as iTunes is opened on the Mac with the content you can use the Remote app to control what is synced on the AppleTV and what is currently available to the AppleTV via streaming.

Streaming video will work best with a 802.11N network. It will work over 802.11G but not as well (or so I've been told).

I LOVE my AppleTV! Check the Apple Store and see if they have any refurbs if you want to save some cash.
