A reboot cleared a lot of memory

Downloaded one of the memory apps for the iPad and saw that my memory usage was high even considering I didn't have any apps open other than the mem app. No safari pages open either.

Now clearing my safari cache freed up some memory.

But after a reboot I doubled the amount. I'm wondering if some of these apps whether created for the iPad without the developers having a real one to test or the iPhone apps are not 100 percent compatible and are causing memory leaks.

Interesting...

I downloaded an info app... it said I had 125mb of total memory. When I rebooted it said I had 221mb of memory.

Note... these are *total* not *free*.

Strange.

That is a known issue from the beginning of the We Rule launch first in Canada over a month ago or so and occurs on all the touch devices. It doesn't actually mean you are low on memory. You could reboot your iPad and it will still say "low on memory"

Something you can try short of rebooting is a force quit of an App you recently used. Whether Safari, Mail, or 3rd Party, any App can be force quit. I think it is a sleep/wake button - home button combo but they changed it for the iPhone at some point so I can't remember exactly how. That should free up memory without a reboot.

I would say the iPad Info App is very buggy. Being they did not have access to an actual iPad when they made the App.

I am waiting on MemoryInfo to make an iPad version.

I've got some apps to crash like "The Elements". I checked the crash logs in Xcode and it reports 90% of the time the reason was low memory. It makes sense since developers don't know the ram capacity until now. Just have to wait for a fix update.

Memory leaks only affect an app while it is running. When an app exits, the OS can always free all memory allocated to the process (unless there's a bug in the OS).

What is probably going on is the OS is caching various things in memory while the iPad is running, which are cleared on reboot.

You're confusing storage space with device memory

what is that?
