iPod A sad day, my Classic is dying. Recommend a new one.

For the past few weeks it has been freezing randomly, skipping during songs, having strange screen issues and acting like it is in its death throes.

Since I will likely need to replace it soon can someone tell me which of the current iPods has the best sound reproduction? I really don't need the large capacity of the Classic any longer so I'm open to any of the models, but I want to get the best sounding unit I can.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I would aways have a Classic around, if mine went I would snap up another.
But the newest Nano is supposed to be nice and it does something other ipods and iphones don't, cross-fade. Which is very cool.

gotta do the iphone or the touch, sooo much stuff to do with it! unless u work out with ur ipod, then i suggest a nano or shuffle.

AFAIK of the currently available iPods, the Classic has the best sound quality.

The current lineup of iPods is different enough that you should be able to figure out which one is for you with a little self Q&A.

For me, I wanted capacity. 64GB would have been enough, but I wasn't gonna drop $399 on the Touch.

But I also felt like, what I really wanted was a music player. That was the whole point of the purchase. The Touch is so much more, and though that's cool, it's not what I was looking for. I didn't want to be distracted playing stupid games (or good games), surfing the net (i have my macbook pro for that), and by whatever other fun stuff there is on there. Basically, I know if I got a Touch, instead of hooking it up to my stereo and playing music, I'd be playing around with it instead.

If you want a device that does all sorts of stuff, the Touch is a no brainer. If you don't need the capacity, but want a solid player, the Nano's are very very cool. I'd love to have one, but the capacity is just too small for me.

So, if you want a no frills music player, and don't need the capacity, get a 16GB Nano (or wait till the Fall to see if they come out with a 32GB, if you need 32GB).

If you want a jack of all trades, get a Touch.

Same here, as soon as my original iPod started to die (I think I had a second generation) it was replaced with a classic.

I have an Ipod chromatic, not the one with the camera but the one before it. I love it and recommend it. I don't recommend an Itouch, but that's just me.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the Classic is still the sound quality champ. I could get by with a Nano, but if the SQ isn't on par with the Classic it seems like I shouldn't consider it.
