I've been soooooo tempted to buy a MBA even though I really don't need it. Temptation got the better of me and I went to go to the Apple Store to pick one up. When I got there, the store was closed for renovations. I think the Mac gods don't want me to get one.

We're making this store better than ever for our favorite guests—you.

We'll be closed for renovation from March 17 to April 11

Or maybe you aren't supposed to take up all of Easter Sunday playing with a new toy?;)

They are SWEET machines. Starting to think it's the best Apple computer I've bought in ten years.

Fate, destiny, a sign from above, whatever you call it, something wants to tell you something. I'd suggest you listen.

Seriously, wait it out. Eventually, your temptation will settle down and you'll come to appreciate your current setup again. And who knows, maybe in one or two years, there'll be a 3GHz Core8Octo MBA with a 500GB SSD for just 999$. Or something to that effect.

I was in a similar situation(ie, didn't really need it). So I stepped outside of the store, flipped a coin, called "heads" and won! ;-) My one year old MacBook is now gathering dust, and I am typing this on my Air while on vacation. If you are going to travel with a computer, this is the one to do it with.

And if he waits 50 years, it will weigh an ounce and have unlimited wireless bandwith to the worldwide information network, so storage won't be an issue. But he'll be 80 years old. Seriously though, you can ALWAYS wait for things to get better, but at some point you have to draw a line in the sand(I'm waiting for the 3G iPhone). The longer you wait, the more time that goes by where you DON'T get to enjoy the benefits of the product you want, and you never get that time back. To me it comes down to how big a deal the $1800 is to you. If it is your life savings or you next 2 mortgage/rent payments, it is dumb to by a computer with that money. But if it isn't a HUGE amount of money to you & you get a lot of use & enjoyment out of computers, that is another story. If you don't treat yourself with foolish purchases ONCE in a while, you're not living!

Should I disclose here that I bought Apple stock last month? ;-)

Some are more affected by JRDF delusion than others.

The decision is simple: Do you need an all-day portable Mac in terms of weight? (despite, or being resigned to, the fact that it lacks all-day battery endurance?) Are you willing to compromise superior function for style, or the ability to run OS X?

Then buy it.

Uplifting as usual.

Delusion my butt, the thing has exceeded my expectations. I travel quite a bit and it fits my lifestyle with 4 hours of manageable battery usage.

I thought your issue was it took all day to charge the battery not how long it lasted?

I didn't say wait for a better model, I said wait out the craving, sleep over it (a lot) and if you do get one, you'll be happy you waited.

Wait a few more weeks. If the fan/core shutdown issues are going to be addressed in this revision you should see it in the next 4-8 weeks. If not, they are not going to be addressed until the next major revision (e.g., they are not simple fixes).

I think the Lord is trying to save you from trouble.

Week 11 MBA's seem to be the same % of trouble as the older ones. There is a Week 12 MBA post that seems encouraging (but again that's what the first Week 11 MBA's seemed to be, encouraging for a while).
