I know people hear all sorts of stuff on the web about what is going on with Apple. Some of it is plain lies…and maybe a truth shows up now and then. This is only a comment I received from an Apple repair person. He stated...”if a lap top or iMac comes into our shop with so much as a small dent or scratch on the case, we will not fix it under or warranty policy. It is consider to have been dropped or at least damage from rough handling of the product”. Any comments or experience with this sort treatment from Apple would be appreciated.

I have an iBook, that was roughly handled.

I once fell on it (slippery ground), and it got dented (the latch was broken).

When the Logic Board failed after the infamous 18 months, I got it replaced under warranty. But it was only an Apple retail chain, not Apple itself.

it seems to be something that varies quite a bit from shop to shop. People report very different experiences with some getting their scratched and dented computers fixed while others get turned away

This is actually illegal. It's the same as a car dealership refusing to work on your car because you changed the stereo. There are laws that protect consumers in this regard.

Not at all. That would be if the op changed the hd or ram or something and they refused to cover it. This is closer to getting a fender bender and asking for it to be claimed under warrenty.
I've had good luck with my apple products and their warrenties, but again this was from an authorized reseller/repair centre, not Apple itself

Both times I've had my Apple computers fixed I used an Authorized Apple Repair Center and I've had no trouble with them. I had my Powerbook's display replaced and my logic board in my Macbook Pro replaced with no questions asked (I did have AppleCare if that makes a difference). My Macbook Pro did have a couple scratches on it and they never said anything to me about it.

Warranty wording..........from Apple

I am not talking against Apple at all. Just wanted to state what has been said to me by one of their repair persons about fixing faulty hardware parts of a system and the possibility of blaming damage onto mishandling. There is a line or two in the warranty that gives Apple an option to refuse service with out charges. It simply states "This warranty does not apply (a) To damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, misapplication, or non-Apple products;

I am sure if a store wanted to blame rough handling for a hardware failure it would be attributed to the above wording in their warranty sales contract.

I like Apple and enjoy their way of outdoing MS. . Just wanted state a story of the possible trouble when needing warranty related work done on a dented or scratched up computer case.
