a TMbackup on the road and at home

Im not really certain how to handle this correctly, so id like your opinion.
I need to have 2 ways for TMachine backupfor my MBpro. A portable ssd (2TB) to use it when im away from home and then when im back at home, merge all the portable's data to main USBC ExtDriveEnclosure. You think that will that work?

Are you hoping on the 'home' drive to have incremental backups that were made on the portable drive? It's doomed to fail.

Easiest thing to do is just set both as time machine destinations. Your MBP will rotate between them at home, ensuring each has the latest 'full' backup. It will ignore the home drive when away, so the first backup when you get home would be a bit larger.

Agreed. Trying to sync Time Machine backups between two drives is asking for trouble.

You mean that i should just have 2 TM backups? One on the portable when away and then the second when im back home?
