OK, so I go to talking with some friends about this game tonight and I have an urge to play it. I've never used my computer for games and I have no intention in the future, so let's not turn this into "Wow, you really want a game from the 1980's." I just remember playing this back in elementary school and want to play it again. For reference, I have a new MacBook with the SR chipset, where can I download or even buy this game where so that it can play on the MacBook?

Best. Game. Ever.

Yeah, I too spent way too much time playing it back in the day, including multiple versions all the way through the Mac CD version that had not-entirely-ghetto graphics. I saw this on TUAW a long while back but never looked into it. There might be other options too - probably some time on Google would help.

You've got a couple of options.

1. Find the game/remake for OSX.
2. Find the game/remake for OS classic, and run it in an emulator like Sheepshaver.
3. Find the ROM and play it in MAME.

I remember Oregon Trail! Fun game; not an fps, or rpg, but fun nevertheless.

Oregon Trail 5 is supposed to play on Mac OS X. I've played both II and 5 on OS9, though. Here's a link, but I'd make sure for yourself that it really will work on Leopard, and doesn't require Classic or something.

It's really good, if you don't mind the childish animated stories you can skip, and get down to the trading and decision-making. There's also fishing and gathering in OT5. I'm a really good player, and prided myself on filling up the top scores screen with huge scores. But nothing older than OT5 will work on your macbook. I've got the older version of OT5 which is OS9 only, so make sure you get the one that works with OS X.

I remember playing Number Munchers and Oregon Trail on our old Apples back in first or second grade. Good times.

I just checked back into this thread. Number Munchers, that was the sh*t. How can I get that? I have Oregon Trail 5 coming from Amazon, so hopefully it'll work...

wow thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember playing this game on the tray-loading imacs at school. I never really took the seriously since i thought it was a stupid game that only our school had. i never knew it waas so popular!
