A Upgrade for iMac Soon?

Hi, I am new to these forums. I realise Apple refuses to disclose any deadlines for product upgrades and releases. However I wondered is there a likelihood that the iMac range will recieve upgrades in 2008? I realise this has happened once already.

I am planning to purchase a 3.06 GHZ, 24 iMac with 4GB Ram etc within the next two months. I would delay this purchase if there was a strong feeling that the iMac range was to recieve speed bump or even quad core. Any thoughts???

Oh come on. That's not an answer it's a line of indulgence. The question was whether the general concensus is that a new iMac upgrade or range will be launched within the immediate future.
 
kk thanks. Are you certain about that? When they upgrade it with new CPU what do you expect? Quadcore, graphics card to superseed the Nvidida 8800?
 
It depends on what direction Apple takes with the MacBook Pro, MacBook and Mac Mini.

If Apple stays with Intel chipsets (moving to Montevina), then I expect no real changes to the iMac because the "Santa Rosa Special" chipset update introduced in June provides the same benefits. So at best, we'd see a mobile quad-core option, but those will add hundreds to the price of the iMac.

If Apple moves to nVidia chipsets, then the iMac will also need to be transitioned to them, though Apple could wait until Mac World 2009 or later to do so.
 
Well since there was an upgrade just a few month's ago I doubt there will be any major update for at least several month's. If Apple does anything it would be a slight speed bump to the processor.

The iMac your looking at is good one. I own that same one with a 500GB HDD.

Thanks, well it's the highest spec of iMac. I'll upgrade the Ram via Crucial. The MacPro is too cumbersome a product for my needs.

If they did introuduce mobile quad core then would that make a major significance to the performance of an iMac? Or would it simply be a minor step on the evolution of iMac?

I have never owned an Apple computer before. I am assuming the 3.06GHZ is incredibly fast and able to handle 3D applications with ease?
 
Just in time for Christmas, a speed bump, and $2-$300 price reductions:eek:
January, Quad Cores, along with the speed bumped Dual Cores they had before Christmas.;)
I believe Apple will position the iMac to be their best selling computer ever, hence the Quads in January,awesome Graphic updates, 1.5 Terrabyte HDD's available, and a slightly (.5 ") thicker case to hold it all. I'll take 3 , thank you!:apple::apple::apple:
 
Thanks, I've read tha thread. They seemed to have gone off topic with it or rather digressed into what is ahead for the entire company...

I think I'll hold out till Early November and then purchase. No doubt micron's before a speed bumped imac is released.
 
We need touch screen iMacs.

That would definitely convince anyone to shell out their hard-earned money for a machine like that.
 
AppleInsider predicts an iMac refresh before the end of this year.

Apple can speed bump the CPUs by 267 MHz for the same TDP now, so yes, there are CPUs to update it with.

One small (backwards) step for single-threaded apps, one giant leap for multi-threaded apps. :D

I don't expect quad-core until Westmere, and it looks like that may not be here until well into 2010.
