A useless battle?

hi, i am at work right now and i had a customer that had me come look at his computer, it is a power mac (the one with the goofy looking base and adjustable screen) . ok, so he was trying to burn some information to a disk. his first attempt to burn it it told him that his disk didnt have enough space to burn all of the information, so he drug some off. when he did this he drug it to the desktop. he told me that with a couple of the folders asked if he wanted to replace the pre existing ones that were apparently already on the desktop. now when you click the folder it says that the destination of the alias cannot be found.

so from what it seems like the folders that drug to the desktop maybe made an alias of the file that he was trying to burn, and erased the origionals. as far as i can see there isnt a way to get them back, but i thought i would drip this in here to see if anyone knew different.

He has 2 ways to get them back.

1) from his Backup, which he probably doesn't have.
2) purchase data recovery software like Data Rescue II

He wouldn't like option #3.

lol i am scared to ask what option number 3 is. but i will send the information on down the line

It's akin to going to the bank, taking $2000+ out, and throwing it in the air. And maybe you get your files back.

Only useful if the data is ULRTACRITICAL. Which, if it was.. he should be slapped for not backing up in the first palce.

too true, would have saved him a hundred bucks just to back up
