A1176 upgradeable to a t5500

Hey guys, I have a core duo mac mini, which is supposed to be upgradable to a core 2 duo t7600. However, I've never seen the full list of upgradeable cpus.

I have a dead alienware m5750 but the old core 2 duo t5500 still works. The A1176 has a t2300. Installing the t5500 wouldn't be as big of a difference as the other, but it would give a performance boost of around 10-15%, which isn't bad.

So, does anyone know if it would work?

The problem is that there were two Sockets for mobile processors in 2007: Socket M (that the Mini Uses) and Socket P. Just because you have a T5500, doesn't necessarily mean it will work in the Mini since many of the same Core2Duo's were available in the same socket. If your T5500 is a Socket M, then you should be able to use it. I have never tried a T2300 swap for a T5500 but I've done two swaps into a T5600 with no issues. Many "unsupported" processors have worked just fine (i.e. the T7600).

That CPU should work in a 2006-2007 Mini.

The official alienware m5750 documentation calls it a 'pentium m' so it should definately be socket m. I suppose I'll see when opening it

I think the T5500 only came in socket M and solderable versions. So it's going to be one of those. Not sure but you can check the Intel ark.intel.com site to make certain. (T5550 was Socket P?)

You are correct (at least that is what Wikipedia is telling me). T5550 was the Socket P variant.

It's been awhile since I "cared" about Core2duo processors. Outside of an old MBP from 2009 that I only use for ripping DVD's, I've all but moved on from them.
