I purchased this pre-owned laptop on eBay a few years ago only to have it stop working a few months later. I sent it back for repair and upon receiving it back again, It only worked for a few weeks before it stopped working again.

The problem is that it will only bring up the apple icon on the screen but won’t finish booting up.

I just realized that the battery inside is an A1382, not an A1321. If I put in an A1321, will this laptop start booting up all the way again?

Photograph shows the bottom cover of the laptop and the currently installed battery.

Thanks for any help!

Why keep fooling with a battery that has offered poor/no performance for years?

Get a new battery -- the right one -- replace it and be done with it.

Go to ifixit.com to see the repair guide and get the proper part number.

I am wondering if the wrong battery would cause the problem described? If it wouldn’t, a new battery will be a waste.

Your MBP is Late 2011 and A1382 appears to be a correct battery P/N, however you RAM is supposed to be DDR3 and not DDR3L. I am not too sure if they are interchangeable.

In the 2011/Sandy Bridge MBP’s, DDR3 (non-L) is a requirement. Some 2012 unibody’s can take DDR3L, but the 2011’s can’t IIRC.

Not quite: the DDR3L spec requires the RAM to be able to function at boh the newer 1.35V voltage as well as switch up to the older, legacy 1.5V voltage on DDR3 systems.

Later, DDR3L-only-spec computers can accept only DDR3L RAM, as DDR3 RAM lacks the integrated logic to change from 1.5V down to the “L” spec of 1.35V.
