Hello. I have been a PC support person for over 35 years. I know very little about apple. My sister-in-law has a problem with her a1419 where the screen has vertical and horizontal lines. I purchased a thunderbold mini display port to hdmi adapter. It works fine duplicated on the external display. To me this would indicate at bad LCD. After searching the internet exhaustively, I could not find anywhere to confirm this diagnosis. Is it worth taking this imac apart or should I just have her use it with an external display. It is about 7 years old. Thanks.

An A1419 is a 2012 27" iMac. The lines you are describing are often associated with a failing graphics card. OPop over to ifixit.com and look at their 'how tos'. The 2012 iMac has the glued LCD screen so have a look at that whilst there.
