When I'm on a forum and I need to contact the "owners" of the sight (forget the term), I can click on "contact us" or something like that. Then, the apple email thingie pops up (I use hotmail and it's not hotmail - it's the built-in email that comes with the laptop, apparently) and in that, I'm supposed to type my message.

Well two things have gone wrong so far.

The first time, it wouldn't send it for some reason so I had to copy the message into my hotmail acct. The second time and third time (a few days apart, sending mail to different people), that darn apple beachball started rolling and nothing would stop it. The laptop (new PB) started heating up a lot and the only thing that would close that window was to hold down the power button and shut off the computer that way.

How frustrating!

Any thoughts?

much obliged...

webmaster@macrumors.com

do you have another e-mail account you can set up with Mail?

I have another email acct, as I said (Hotmail) but I don't see why webmaster won't work for me! I stupidly clicked on the link to webmaster that you provided and the damn beachball came back instantly and I had to shut down the computer AGAIN! This really sucks. What's the point of webmaster if I can't use it and why is it freezing up my computer everytime I end up in its pressence?

type DISK
disk utility should pop up - repair permissions ,

have you set up mail yet? if not then you need to set an e-mail account with it (not sure hotmail works mind) has to be IMAP/POP account

I'm embarrassed to admit that I hadn't set up my mail acct. yet with the PB. So I'm doing it now, but under IMAP or POP acct it's asking me what my "incoming mail server" is, e.g. mail.example.com. I don't know what that means, do you?

sure if say your with btinternet then it would be along the lines of

pop.btinternet.com - this is the incoming bit
smtp.btinternet.com - outgoing bit

ontop of that you need to put your username and password in

ie

user :steve.jobs
password:XPisrubbish

you can get these settingd from your e-mail account provider , normaly your internet provider

By clicking an email link from Safari (or any browser) the Mail.app program will open and insert the email address in that program.
If you only use Hotmail then you need to copy the email address and login to hotmail, and paste the email there.
Now, the beachball problem I don't fully understand. But that only happens when in hotmail? Or after you try sending any email or something?
If the beachball is being caused by a certain program, then just force quit the program. Cntrl-Click on the application icon in the dock, and Force Quit should be available to do. It doesn't harm anything.
If the Finder is causing the Beach Ball then I don't fully understand what you're doing that causes that. Correct me if I've misunderstood the problem.

Change auto e-mail program to Mac e-mail (built in to osX)

I see now that Entourage is working with my Hotmail, but only so that I can see my e-mails listed. The beachball is still there and I can't use the program. What is it thinking about? What is it trying to connect to?

I got my Mac e-mail program to connect automatically to my "other" e-mail (isp provided), but how can I make the Mac e-mail my primary e-mail account/program so that it pops up when I want to connect automatically to "SEND US E-MAIL" on web sites? How can I put Entourage into the background (i.e. secondary e-mail program)?

Thank you in advance for all of your help!
