My wife and I just got done watching an episode of the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution show on the iPad. I made a note of my battery life before we started watching it: 88%. When we were done watching: 82%. Now, yes, my brightness is set to almost the lowest setting, which is more than bright enough for a darker bedroom, but even then, that is just plain astonishing. Streaming HDTV over wifi for 45+ minutes and draining only 6%? AND the iPad isn't even warm!

Wow. Just wow.

Yeah, it's such a shocker compared to laptops. My tablet laptop might last 2 and half to 3hrs.

I figured the 10 hour video claim for the iPad was probably with preloaded movies. But the first night, after a 100% charge, I did some browsing and random things. I then loaded netflix and watched 2 SD tv episodes (22-26 min each), and it was still around 92%. I thought, wow, that was video while streaming over wifi, plus the bit of use before.

I actually turned up the brightness for the video to match my two PC monitors where I set it while working. Also used the iPad speaker.

That is the single thing that amazes me the most is just the ridiculous amount of time the battery lasts. I've hardly opened my MBP since I've gotten the iPad since most of the time I am just web surfing and only get two maybe three hours on my MBP but on the iPad i can get three nights almost.

Agreed! And it's not just the ABC app, it's Netflix, Safari, more...

This thing is great. Definitely the best "gadget" I've owned. Contrary to the complaints I see I am very happy with my purchase.

I know it's amazing. Three days of regular use and it was down to 30%! Very happy with the battery life on the iPad :). I didn't charge it just regular usage and music overnight speaking of music, reviewers have been trying to figure out the battery life but ironically it last too long. I leave mine overnight with music and unplugged and it also barely decreases any battery percentage.

Yeah this battery life is just grand!

I am starting to wonder what the battery life will be like through 3G, I think the website says something like 9 hours over 3g? Would be amazing if thats a realistic estimate.

- Magical Indeed -

My wife loves the ABC app! She can watch episodes of General Hospital in half the time it takes normally and with maybe [2] or [3] 5-10 second commercials during each episode.

She watched 3 episodes back to back yesterday with no lag, no stuttering, excellent picture quality and with very little battery drain.
That has to be one aspect of the "magic" Steve was talking about :D

I think that videos surprisingly consume less battery than regular apps on iPad. Just seems like my battery last longer when I watch from Netflix or ABC compared to games.

Yeah, makes sense as other things activates the multi-touch screen, which actually drains some more battery.
