iPhone 11 Able to purchase AppleCare in UK for iPhone purchased in the US?

As per the title, my partner just purchased an iPhone 11 in the US but was going to wait until back in the UK to purchase AppleCare. Is that possible or does she have to purchase it in the country she bought the phone?
