My old man asked me to give him my new MacBook Pro, which I just bought a month ago. The good news is I get to use it for the 3 month during my stay in China, and I can buy myself another one (probably an upgraded one XD) when I go back to the States.

But I haven't bought AppleCare for this MBP yet, so I wanna ask what's inside the AppleCare package? Some kind of activation key? or a software? Can I buy it in the States and use it to activate warranty of the machine in China?

The box is just a card that has an authorization number (like a serial number) for the warranty. You call apple and give them that number and the serial number of your MBP and they basically "connect" the two in their system.

I don't know whether you have to purchase applecare in the same country as your computer purchase. Call apple, they'll have a quick answer for you.

Not for Apple's notebooks or the Mac Mini because they're both considered portables, their AppleCare coverage is international.

AppleCare needs to be purchased in the same country as the computer. There are many differences between countries in how they view warranties purchased elsewhere -- even from the same company. If purchased in the same country, the support travels with you wherever you go.

just to note that I bought the MBP in the States also.
