Hi everybody. So, the other day, I was on my iMac doing some work, for quite some time, I would say maybe 6-7 hours, and suddenly, the mouse started to play up and whenever I was pressing a document on my desktop, it was adding all the clicks together, so I would have many files and documents clicked together. Then I restarted the computer, and the iMac was turning on very very slowly, you know, that line that has to pass to the end in order for it to turn on. Then I realized on the top right of the screen it said boot mode in red lettering. I was very worried, and I turned the iMac off. Then after a day, I turned it on again, and it had gone and returned to being normal. What in the Hell actually happened? I found out online that turning it on and off will solve the problem of boot mode and thats exactly what happened. But I am still worried. Why did it go into boot mode and have that problem with the mouse? Is my iMac slowing down and losing some of its power? Thank you.

Where have you read about "boot mode" - There are several boot flags, for booting safe mode, single user mode, verbose mode, etc. but "boot mode" doesn't ring familiar to me

I think boot mode is the same thing as safe mode. From my looking up online

Might it have said 'safe mode' in red lettering?
I'm pretty certain it said boot mode. But like I say, I think it means the same thing as safe mode

Boot Mode is just not something that Apple uses in its vocabulary to my knowledge.
As to why it booted in safe mode; Any chance you held down shift while it was booting? - That does it

I think it was that. I got my wording wrong.

Yeah the confusion was cleared up. No, that wasn't the case.

However, the mouse problems you describe could also be explained by some combination of shift/command/ctrl being held down - a temporarily stuck key (Or Bluetooth glitch if you’re using wireless) maybe?

I think it had to do with the wireless mouse, as it has been playing up in other ways, although this is the first time this happened.
