How would this work considering iOS doesn’t support mouse input? I don’t think it’s as simple as flipping a switch. And no Apple Pencil is not the equivalent of a mouse. And how would it work in practice? Would all websites automatically load the desktop version or would iOS need a setting where you tell it to always load certain websites in desktop mode? And would they load the desktop version if you were 50/50 split view mode? Seems like this isn’t as simple as some suggest.

Web sites should be designed to be responsive, regardless of which browser is loading them. But certain elements like opening sub menus, etc. don't work well on iPad. It has more to do with how iOS Safari handles the :focus and :hover pseudo selectors than anything else. I'm sure the geniuses at Apple could come up with something that works better if they actually sat down and tried.

Desktop Safari supports extensions, has a web inspector and console; it can set a home page and download files; adjust minimum font size and have a custom CSS file. The list goes on and iOS Safari supports none of this.
