New to all this and have some questions:

1)When i am jailbreaking my iphone 3g does the firmware on it have to be the same version as the ipsw file pwnage tool is asking me on the very first stages of the process? For example the firmware on the phone is 2.0 but the version of the firmware am telling pwnage tool to work with is 2.0.1?

2)All hardware unlocking solutions for iphone 3g (yessim, rebelsim etc) are they in any way related to jailbreaking?

Thanks for the help

Thanks for that but there is still something that i dont understand. When i get my iphone 3g is going to be firmware version 2.0. Do i have to use itunes to update it to 2.0.1 first and then jailbreak 2.0.1 or is it ok for the phone to be 2.0 and jailbreakit with the custom firmware pwnage tool is going to create based on 2.0.1?

no you don't have to update to 2.0.1 first. just read any of the billion pwnage guides available.
