For those of you who have a JB 3g on 3.1.2 about how much free ram do you have? My wifes 3g usually only has about 1-5mb off free ram at any given time the ony thing installed on her phone is 5 dock and desktop wallpaper for a background. I uninstalled winterboard and replaced it with desktop wallpaper and it did help some, but it seems like somethings hogging up the ram.

After a restart or respring should be at around 50mb free.
If it keeps running low like that I suggest a restore and rejailbreak.
I imagine with such low memory available it will run like crap.

SBSettings has a "Free Up Memory" button in Processes. I find that if I hit that every so often it helps performance. iPod and Safari tend to suck the RAM down, so if I'm trying to do anything while listening to music, especially something that is crash-prone like my RSS reader, I try to make sure the memory is refreshed.

And yeah, with no-apps running I usually see between 45 and 50 MB free, and when I'm running low on RAM, hitting the free-up memory button usually boosts me back to between 25 and 35 MB free.

When I respring it it usually has about 25mb free then starts to decrease pretty fast.

Is there anyway I can take the contact file out of the iPhone so when I restore it as new I can put it back in. Has any one done this before? The thing is my wife has hundreds of contacts, and she'd kill me if I lost them.

You can sync all the contacts thru address book on your computer and then transfer them back thru itunes.
