Mac OS X are safer, but don't you think that when some OS like Windows have 90% of market, that it is the main goal of hackers/crackers or whatever you call it? Also, Linux is also UNIX, and it is free. UNIX means maybe safer, but it isn't impossible, and MAC computers can hack and infect. I think there was some competition to hack MAC or something like that, and they succeed. I would like to have Mac, and I am maybe getting Macbook soon, but it isn't fair to compare like that. Also Windows users maybe hate Mac's (some), but look at Mac forums and Linux. They are bashing Windows, and telling that Windows users are stupid, and that they are superior if they are using Macintosh..

Black hat hackers yes, but anyone and everyone who hacks for educational/entertainment/bragging purposes already knows they can hack a PC, it's no big deal. It would be a very big deal if someone managed to hack OS X, there's your motivation.

Also, Linux is also UNIX, and it is free. UNIX means maybe safer, but it isn't impossible, and MAC computers can hack and infect.

Don't understand this sentence. Yes, Linux and OS X are similar. Unix doesn't just mean a little safer though, as if it has some magical firewall built in; Windows was designed to be a dumb box with a single user, any extra ability was patched on. Unix and Unix-like OS's on the other hand were designed from the ground up to be multi user networking systems. That's what makes it makes it more secure, kind of like how you can technically drive off-road on a Honda Civic with all-terrain tires, but you wont have nearly as good an experience as a truck, hummer, atv, etc...

I think there was some competition to hack MAC or something like that, and they succeed.

You're referring to this. The Macbook was hacked in two minutes by the user going to a website designed around a particular exploit. This is a social engineering issue. No OS can protect the user from himself.

I would like to have Mac, and I am maybe getting Macbook soon, but it isn't fair to compare like that.

Don't understand your point here...

Also Windows users maybe hate Mac's (some), but look at Mac forums and Linux. They are bashing Windows, and telling that Windows users are stupid, and that they are superior if they are using Macintosh..

Don't understand your point. Anyway, that attitude is called fanboyism, and the more intelligent among us frown upon it. However, there are instances where a Mac is better suited than a Windows PC or Linux box (or vice-versa). Video editing for example, Final Cut Pro is the video editor of choice for most pros and it only runs on OS X, but Premiere is also used by many pros and it runs on Windows.

Yes, but you must admit that ever OS is possible to hack. Just Windows is at main target to hack.

Windows would be less affected if people (especially those with less expirence) to don't use Admin account. I am using Admin account but for example I have almost 2 years this PC and the same XP installeted and never had system down. But for people with maybe less knowledge, or in general, user shouldn't use admin account.

Not sure is that it, just heard that there was a competition, and that guy hacked OS X. Not sure is that it.

Yes, for professionals Mac is probably better, but for some teenager boy/girl or average user, who want to play games, and to have every program they need, they will probably go for Windows. That's just how it goes.

Hack and Virus are two different things. So if you want to say Hack, sure Macs can be hacked (whatever that means). If you want to say Macs get virsues then you are wrong. Because they don't. :D
And as for which is better, I don't know, I've been hearing this argument since 1993 or so. But I do like the comparison of a Mac is a Porsche and a PC is a rice rocket. Sure you can put on big wheels and a spoiler, but it doesn't exactly make it faster now does it?

And please stop saying MAC, you don't realize how dumb you sound when you do. We don't say WINDOWS do we?

It appears you are trying to find some way to justify your Windows XP decision by stating that Mac OS X is not really safe when all data appears to prove you wrong. You would be better off saying I cant run some program or I can buy a $300 computer etc rather then going the virus/spawn route.

Yes, I do admit that, but it doesn't change the fact that with or without market share, OS X is still harder to hack than Windows.

Agreed, but who's gonna stop them from using Admin?

Trust me, that's the one.

Probably true, and unfortunate since a Mac would be just as good, if not better suited for them as a Windows box would in every area except for games (where it is steadilly catching up).

Meh, when I worked at MAC, most of the other girls were bitchy and stuck up but a few were nice and I still go out with them. Can't complain...free make-up and paid to experiment with new looks.

Oh...Mac.

;)

No matter. You never worked at MAC or Mac. Now Big Mac ... that's one I can believe.

Don't forget this Mac.

RIP. :(

As for the issue of the thread... use what you like, enjoy it. The Mac community has more to do with the friendliness between Mac users and shared interests than the fact that we think we're safe from viruses or think we're better than Windows users.

This statement I think was meant to be cleaver but how do you work at Mac? when the company name is Apple and Macs are the computers they put out. and Big Mac is also not a place of employment "making Big Macs" would have been better.

None one, but I think this is written in instructions, and Microsoft recommends it not to work in Admin account. Well none can stop them (at least not radical) but then it's not Microsoft's fault if people just don't listen.

No, I don't wanna justify anything, but none OS is really save. How someone can compae Windows which has like 90% of market, and OS X which is like 6%? OS X has less viruses, and maybe it is harder to make some viruse for it, if people who make viruses gave all effort into OS X, I don't think we would have this situation. So for Apple is better to have 6-10% of market, than getting 90% of Windows. If they wanna keep they're reputation as safest OS that is...

What is this: http://antivirus.about.com/od/macintoshresource/Macintosh_Viruses_and_Mac_Virus_Resources.htm

The same goes for OS X. I have read plenty of articles saying that you should not be logged into an admin account 24/7.

I really don't understand the point of this thread. Are you trying to prove something?

I smelled a troll when I was reading the first post. Doesn't seem like it will smell any better later.
