So recently i had a chance to have a genuine mac and bought it. And i choose MP5.1 dual cpu, still in stock and when i'm playing around with sierra public beta (since pb3) an 'About This Mac' window no longer show ECC but still appear correctly in full system profiler in memory section. So it just cosmetic, losing 'xGB DDR3' instead of 'xGB DDR3 ECC'.

Installing 10.11.6 still show ECC in about this mac. I remember installing MacOs Sierra from PB1 (not DP ver.) still show ECC. Upgrade to PB2 still okay and after PB3 ECC information was gone.

Already sent report via feedback assistant app but probably ignored~ In PB4 still no appear ECC~
I know this is just small cosmetic changes~ but at least with lose of ECC cosmetic in about this mac it will difficult to distinguish which real mac pro with ECC ram and standard one at glance (require digging into system profiler to check). I found some people using standard ram on their mac pro tower.

Have no difference with my hackintosh, no ECC info~

Probably it's a hint from apple no longer sell computer with ECC ram in future means apple stop selling mac pro?

By the way, anyone with cylinder MP 6.1 experience this same things? Or in hacked 2008 MP 3.1? Curious now this ECC cosmetics affects other mac pro, please share experience here, thanks~

dose it still say ecc in the system report ?
relay cant see most users wanting to see ecc or even know what it means so not a surprise to see it's gone, now if it's not in the system report section thats different.

Yes, system report still says ECC and correctly displayed. Maybe apple love to kill any jargon related, including ECC lol~

Likely just cosmetic and not a hint of removal of ECC.
yepp, i think so, but it'll love to see ECC at glance for easier identifying which type RAM used by MP in quick way.

OOT : another gone stuff, galaxy wallpaper (mountain lion style) is also removed in sierra (accidentally found it). For galaxy wallpaper lover, grab a copy from capitan is not bad :p

Sure it's cosmatic, lots of information can be changed on that page. Also, back in to 10.11 beta, that page even shows Yosemite. I know it's hard to believe that Apple's public beta consist this kind of silly bug, but it does.

Anyway, if you want to see that again, treat it as a bug, and file a bug report to Apple.

This is probably another episode of

but...toward Apple.

It's probably a bug....but as another poster said...it wouldn't be mac without ECC labeled.

yepp...already sent a new report...will see if that changes in next build~

I don't understand--the ElCap screenshot also doesn't show ECC.

My El Cap screenshot above is taken under hackintosh, it's normal for hackintosh doesn't have ECC (except build with E5 xeon and ecc dimm~)
In El Cap under real mac pro, ECC still appear normally.

That's was why I'm curious with cylinder 6.1 owner, are they machine had similar cosmetic bug like this.
Anyone who had black magical cylinder with sierra installed please chime in~

Partly that.

… Having ECC in there just makes all the systems with non-ECC (and soldered in RAM) look bad. …

Partly that.

Look to when APFS will become the norm. Then, this may change –

… cant see most users wanting to see ecc or even know what it means …

– as there was and is widespread misinformation (and sometimes endless discussion) around ECC in relation to ZFS, So I expect that there will be misinformation about ECC in relation to Macs.

PB5 out and still no ECC cosmetics...but not only that.

I'm start toying around with "About This Mac" like in hackintosh day where i can changing about this mac overview to match with my actual hardware..in macos sierra those configuration change. I no longer change about this mac overview anymore in SPInfo.strings, but the rest parts like display storage etc remain editable.

SPInfo.strings in sierra get many overhaul compared in El Cap and this time formatted with proper XML unlike EL Cap which consist of readable text.
