about this mac overview storage only shows internal drive

I notice in previous oses, when I went to overview and the storage tab, as in maveriks, it would show all hard drives, external or any thumb drives attached as well as the internal, now it only shows the internal.

is this normal? the other hard drive I wanted to see was an external hard drive attached used for time machine backups.

Mine show externals. This is with a USB key attached.

That graphic gets its data from the Spotlight index and I'm wondering if Spotlight indexing is disabled on a TM disk? Do you have another disk you can try it with?

Yes, I tried it with my thumb drive and it shows it there, and see it is getting full too.
