Wireless printing for ipad coming iOS 4.2

Steve Jobs just announced wireless printing will be part of iOS 4.2. Can't wait for it to be released!!

iOS 4.2 for iPad out in November - print manager

Straight from Jobs' mouth. Well, at least we have a date now. It has been a long time coming. I am most excited for the Print Manager. Seems rather promising. From the still, it seems that it will detect both Wireless printers as well as shared ones.

No special features... Simply an add of multitasking and folders in the exactly same way of iPhone..

..really sad..

The print manager alone stands out. I agree, they could've tried to re-imagine folders for the larger screen. But I guess they wanted a homogeneous interface.

Nope, straight to 4.2. Just sad that one has to wait another 2 months, for functionality we're used to on the other iOS devices. But oh well, better late, than being left out by the curb.

PRINTING!!! Finally...wait...November!!! November!!!! YEAH! Geez...that's a long haul off. Haha. It'll be the new version in like 2 months after that.

It will be interesting to see if you can print from "anywhere" - meaning - can you print from email? from any app (like opening files from various apps)

I hope printing isn't just for the Apple Apps.

I also wonder if you need to have a server running on your computer or if it is truly wireless printing. I guess we shall see!

I'm assuming no computer will be needed since it wasn't mentioned.... but neither was whether or not you could print from any app...

I was curious how the wireless printing will work. Will the printer manufacturers have to release new printer drivers? I have an old HP printer with wifi--will it work with the iPad? I did a google search on this but couldn't find anything, so perhaps the answer is not available yet.

Yes..I too woory about how it will print..but if we can get some typr of printing..it will increase ipad enterprise use by ten fold.

I was just getting ready to buy and eprinter, but I think I'll wait to see how this works

Wireless printing (bonjour on the iPhone maybe?)! but I hope they expand it so that we could also use Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit to recognize older printers or multi-function ones that have no wifi and just get HP and others to create an app w/ the capabilities for their respective printers.... maybe w/ the next revision of the iPad!

I would highly assume it is bonjour and that printers that work with the airport exprress will work with the iPad.

I hope.

Although the camera connection thing would just rock - I'd jailbreak for that! LOL!

Just an observation, but in the land of the never-satisfied half the posts bemoan the absence of features that are supposedly on some as-yet-unreleased competitive device and the other half are trying to figure out why their parallel port printers aren't supported.

jajaja I feel you, just in case I was talking of USB printers (camera kit is usb) which are not really that old when considering parallel port only printers (it's been years since I seen a fully working one put to use!). By expanding on the camera kit functions they could potentially be 95% compatible w/ printers in use and have a computer free experience at home w/ ios devices (which is what basically SJ said people wanted!) Also wanted to add that WiFi printers are substantially pricier than the same printer w/out it...

Well, one thing for sure is that the printer will need some wireless link. This could mean built-in WiFi like many printers have today, but in the absence of that the printer will need to be connected to a (not sleeping) computer or perhaps an Airport device.

I'm hoping that you can map it to an IP address. I have a wired network printer.

BTW, Goodreader sees my printer but cannot do anything with it.
