Maybe a few of you can offer some advice/tips:

I'm in the market to get a new iMac. I saw the rumor (in Dec on this site) that a new one will be out 1st 1/2 this year but that's a huge window and honestly anyone remotely into Macs would tell you that's a pretty obvious statement.

I would flip out if I bought one in early Feb and a new model rolled out in mid March unless there were 0 performance enhancements. But I doubt Apple will roll out a new iMac and simply change the color. :)

1)Anyone hear any better timeframes? I don't have to buy tomorrow but would like to buy before Feb 15.

2)Any rumors on exactly what the iMac will have for new features? All I really care about for new features are price, memory, and CPU. When I look for new models of computers, all I really care about is overall horsepower and a nice display. It would be sweet if it came with a 256GB or larger SSD at the same pricepoints but I don't see that happening as SSD has not become mainstream yet and Apple loves their margins.

3)I'm tempted to get the 27" as I already own a Windows XP box (and Mac Mini) pushing to a 24" and love it to death. But I do wonder if the 27" is just gonna be too large even though it's only 3 inches larger diagonally. I am aware of the tech specs on all the models. I am leaning towards the baseline 27" and possibly adding my own RAM for $175 instead of Apple's steep $400 to make it an 8GB machine. The 27" model is very attractive over the 21.5" model when you sit down with a pen and paper and compare the 2.

4)Main uses are iPhoto and iMovie...our 3+ year old Mini is ok with these, so I hope the apps still exist and didn't get worse over time. We are still pretty Windows XP junkies but I have to say iPhoto and iMovie are great (free) tools. I would assume the i3 chip and 4GB (or 8) of RAM and a 7200RPM drive would be pretty fast at rendering a 60min video clip compared to our Core 2 Duo chip and 2GB of RAM on a 5400RPM drive.

5)(thinking out loud here): wonder if I should sell my cost-me-$1200-mini-in-late-2007 but I am guessing it's barely worth $500 and not sure if really want to part with it. The new mini is overpriced if you ask me and this little guy would be a great 2nd Mac to muck around with.

Anyway, thought I would ask a few questions and see what people think. Thanks in advance!

1, I imagine it will be closer to summer for the iMac. But no one really knows when it will be.

2, most likely just a CPU/graphics bump to the newer stuff, SSD won't be standard, and memory will more than likely remain at 4GB stock

3, the 27 wouldn't be a bad idea if you like that size better. I haven't had the opportunity to use it at a desk, so I'm not sure if it would be too big for me or not.

4, any of the iMacs will be considerably faster than your mini at just about any task, so no need to worry about that. I'm sure the iLife programs won't go away, especially since they just recently released iLife '11

5, I'd probably just keep the mini at this point, it really won't be worth a whole lot by now, but if you don't have use for it, you might as well sell it.
