Im about to buy a 12 inch powerbook and it will be my first mac. Iv been using PCs for a number of years and was wondering if anyone has any advice on making the change. Is there anything I should be aware of, any difficulties it switching? or just anything you hav experienced im making the change.

Uhm... everything is good on the Mac side. Erm.. start burning CDs now so you can transfer over all your stuff!

And if you arent using power app's buy an ibook and wait till intelbooks. Max the ram and it will still be way cheaper than the powerbook and not alot slower if you arent using power applications.

Difficulties in switching - Get a multi button mouse if you're used to one.
Also, OSX is "easy" but it takes a little while to learn. It's more intuitive than Windows in a lot of ways, but you have to "re-think" things sometimes. When you want to do something, you may find yourself trying a "windows" command when there's a simpler or different mac equivalent.

B. what do you wanna do with it? Just dont say gaming
C. Its alot easier then windows, you just gotta learn it 1st. Once you do, you see how organizing and just playing with it is so much simpler

The things other people have said are really good advice. I switched a year ago with a 12" PowerBook, and I've been 100% satisfied with the switch. Like the other posters have said, it'll take a while to get used some differences in the way OS X works compared to Windows. That's to be expected, and it would be mistake to get frustrated or annoyed because a the Mac way is not exactly like the Windows way that you're used to. Be open to learning how to do things the Mac way, and very soon you'll find yourself much more comfortable with the Mac than with Windows. After a year using a Mac almost exclusively, I feel crippled when I try to use a Windows machine. There are so many annoying, clunky UI features in Windows in place of simple intuitive equivalents in OS X.
Apple has a conference announcing their "latest pro innovations" scheduled for TOMORROW. Anything with "Power" in the name is considered pro. The major leak sites claim there will be new PowerBooks released tomorrow.
Just wait one day before you buy the PowerBook. If there's nothing released tomorrow, you went one day without a PowerBook. If there IS a new PowerBook released, you just got a much better machine.

My advice would be to use the computer for a couple hours using only the programs that come on it before starting to download programs from the internet. A friend of mine is obsessed with AIM, so she downloaded AIM straight away without trying out iChat. When she found out that iChat does the same thing with a more intuitive interface, she realized she had been missing out.
I used Macs all my life, then bought a PC during high school, then switched back to Mac when OS X came out. It takes awhile to unlearn windows habits, but soon you'll be wondering how you ever lived without iLife and Expose.

All your personal data, documents, music, photos, and preferences go to your User/Home folder.
Applications go in your HD Applications folder either by an installer or simply by dragging the application icon to your applications folder.
When the directions say to drag it to your hard drive, it still means that it goes inside your applications folder.
You don't need to buy anti-virus or anti spyware apps at all.
Set-up is a breeze and do run your system " as shipped for a bit just
to rule out any problems.
Add RAM! 3rd party from either Crucial.com or macsales.com
Apple +/- zooms the text in web pages. Still my favorite!
Buy AppleCare before your factory warranty expires.
If you get stuck, someone's usually here 24/7
