Hey guys,

I've decided to get a mini to replace my early 2011 17" MBP, of which I've installed a 512GB SSD. Even though I have all my important files backed up, it'd be extremely convenient to be able to simply take the 512GB SSD out of the laptop, swap the Mini's HDD for the SSD, and boot up the Mini with my previous OSX install, software and files.

If I were to swap drives like this, would it be as simple as this? Everything would work correctly and all my software, files and settings would stay intact?

Thank you in advance!

Sorry, not that simple. Best option is to clone your SSD to the internal HDD on the mini, then do a fresh install of OSX onto the SSD and then use the backup to migrate your information from the HDD to the SSD.

Sage advice. I use this routine, it's fast & easy. Great results every time.
