I ended up going with the one I linked.

Thanks for the posts, though

That monitor doesn't look too bad for the price. I'm looking to get a Mac Mini to replace my iMac so I'm in the market for a monitor as well.

I've enjoyed the Dell U2410. Dell displays sometimes get snubbed by monitor snobs but my original carried a 3 year warranty. When it died, Dell gave me this U2410.

Yeah, I'm really looking at getting a pair of 16:10 monitors for my mini. I thought the current line of iMacs were still 16:10 like my 2008 model, but they're 16:9. 16:10 monitors just feel so much more immersive. Those Dell monitors are nice.

If only Dell would make one with USB3 and built-in speakers, I feel like they would give the TBD a run for the money.

Thank god they don't, IMHO. If your going to buy an IPS or e-IPS panel, chances are you have a great speaker set, etc. No monitor speaker is going to match a 2.1 or 2 or even a good pair of headphones.

In any case, the 2142M is a great entry level IPS from Dell. It is E-IPS, which means it is not true 8bit IPS but instead is 6bit. That said, the screen looks amazing and has no noticeable ghosting in games IMHO. The best thing about Dell monitors is they are really ergonomic. You can flip them vertical, tilt, swivel, etc.

True monitor snobs go for Dell, HP, or Apple; with the first two being the high end models since the Apple TBD is already a high end model (in terms of price and quality). There is so much misinformation on monitors out there, esp. since the industry is shifting to poorly made panels on poorly designed frames, because that is what the consumer wants (aka 16:9 so I can play my Xbox, woo!).

In any case, Dells are the de facto standard for a value IPS outside of the 1,000 dollar range for Apple, HP, and Dell high-end IPS panels.

I know the speakers of the TBD aren't audiophile grade but I like the idea of freeing up space in my work area (it also has minimal cabling). The next refresh is expected to bring reduced glare and USB3 which will be the tipping point for me.

If you'd stretch the $100 range a bit, there is the Dell S2440L which has a great IPS panel, and the design isn't too shabby, either.

Based on my experience with ViewSonic, it is probably as good a choice as any.

I bought one to go with my first Mac Mini back in 2005. Now, nearly 8 years on I am on to my second Mini, but am still using the monitor I bought back then. Sure it would be nice to have something a little larger, with more modern tech, but old faithful will probably do me for a while yet.

So you got yourself all set up with a new mac for around $750..Good deal!

I got the new Mac Mini (refurb) for $509 and the 22" Viewsonic for $130. I also bought 8GBs of ram from OWC for $60. I think I'm gonna have a good set-up for $699.

If this had a VESA mount, it would be an instant buy (x2).

I too am looking for a new monitor for my mini. Somewhere in the $120-180 range. Check out Tigerdirect.com. They have a lot of the Asus LED monitors priced at $139-179. 2-5 ms response, 50000000:1, 23 or 24" models, with HDMI, DVI, and VGA inputs, 1920 x 1080

I will probably order one before the end of next week.
