After a few trouble free months of ownership, my fiance's Macbook has a bad motherboard and won't charge the system's battery. In recent months, we've sent it back for service twice: once to change the topcase (stains), and the other was to replace the fried motherboard board, which crapped out no more than a week after we got the new topcase installed.

This will be the 3rd repair that has been made on this Macbook, which leads me to my question: At what stage will we be entitled to a replacement? AFIAK there is a computer lemon law in california, but I can't find any specifics, and I'm not sure what Applecare's policy is on a repeated repairs of this nature. If anyone can shed some light on this subject, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

this has never happened to me, but i would remind them that this would be the third time you'd be giving up your laptop for xx amount of time, causing you needles grief. and then kindly suggest getting a replacement computer altogether. i duno, that's what i would do.

Same problem here. If my MacBook Pro comes back from the shop with one more problem, I am asking for a replacement. I have had the keyboard, logic board and magsafe replaced because of stupid problems.

Heat
Whine
Battery Screwing up
Case warping
Dead pixels
Loose display hinge.

they say it will be all fixed with a logic board replacement but I'm not buying it. I can't be away from my laptop forever so if it comes back with another problem I am going to beg for a replacement machine. I have already asked and been denied so I think I have a stronger case now.

Wow, I think after sending it in for repairs 3 times already they should realize that it might just be a faulty machine. Good luck!

Applecare.

If you bought Apple Care you should be fine. I went thru 6 iPods before they got me one with no problems. Apple Care is the best, just threaten to never buy anything from Apple again and they'll change their minds haha. The 5th time mine broke, I was like, "I want a refund I don't even want this anymore this is how ridiculous and a waste of time this is" and they said, oh no sir we are sorry for the inconvenience and they upgraded my iPod from a 30GB to a 60GB for free. Should work the same with anything under Apple Care. Then again, an iPod doesn't cost anywhere near as much as a laptop. But I'd still try it.

Don't threaten them. It only makes them think you're an ass that they don't want to deal with again anyway. Just be nice, and as suggested, say that it has caused you alot of grief and hint at a replacement. I think Apple has a policy of 4 replacements (could be wrong) before they will give you a new one.

I didn't say threaten like "I HATE YOU ALL" just say something along the lines of "These constant repairs are showing no improvement on my product and the fact that I have yet to be offered a replacement is putting doubt on your customer service and company as a whole, and I'm not to sure I'd even WANT to buy from you again if this is the way I am being treated" Thats not a rude threat, thats a truthful to the point threat. They don't want to lose your business, and if you act too nice they treat you like a little kid and nothing gets done. Trust me I dealt with Apple Care countless times with no results, it was when I put my foot down that I actually saw progress. Just make sure to say how many times you brought it in, and how much of inconvenience. I mean sending your computer, I bet you have to do work with it, that can effect your whole life. You have to make it totally clear to them!
