Well, for starters, it's not as simple as Apple saying, "Hey, we got the money, and we're buying you!" Business buyouts are extremly complex deals, and selling out to a particular company can depend on a number of reasons. Sometimes the price isn't even a major factor.

It's quite possible that Apple put an offer on the table and Alias said no. If I don't want to sell you my car, even though you've offered the amount I want, I don't have to sell it to you. A company can dictate who they want to sell out to.
