Two people have mentioned to me since my iPhone is running v1.1.1 that I can somehow access the infamous installer without hacking the phone. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so, how to go about doing it? Somehow it doesn't seem to make sense to me without installing something.

AFAIK Jessica, you have to hack the phone...however, if you have 1.1.1 it is all done for you in one step by using Safari on the iPhone and surfing to www.jailbreakme.com

Hmm I'm so fearful of ***** up the phone I'm not sure I want to try. Having this same convo with a few people resulted in some genius (not Apple) saying installer was there. Clearly they were yanking my chain.

You sound exactly like me when I was on 1.0.2. Just sync your phone, restore it to 1.1.1, then after the restore is finished, go straight to jailbreakme.com on wifi, and everything should be done in a few minutes. I did it, and it took literally 2-3 minutes tops.

Yeah but it's already running 1.1.1. So I can skip the whole restore right?

I have iphone version 1.0.2. I bought it unlock and I dont know how it was unlock. Now If I update the firmware from my Itunes which is 1.1.2 will my phone be locked again.

Can some1 help me starting from basic i.e. from unlocked 1.0.2 to installing new firmware and getting back to unlock status.

I know I might sound dum and I know many ppl already wrote a lot about it, but I am not able to understand from where I should start from.

Please help
