iPhone accessing a backup?

okay, so excuse me in advance, i am completely tech and apple stupid. seriously. so.

now, i backed up my iPhone to my macbook and then jail broke it. and i obviously lost everything.

now i'm wondering if i can access all my contacts and\or pictures in order to put them back on my phone without messing up my jailbreak.

Sure, but jail breaking does not remove content, you must have done a firmware restore.
Plug it into iTunes, select it in left panel.
Use the tabs to restore the content as desired.

There are no contacts listed? I'm not really sure where to find them

If you backed them up, they are under the "Info" tab

It would likely do you some good to open each tab and see what is available under each function so you are not so "Apple stupid" as you put it.
