hi,

if I connect an external hdd to my Mac, would I be be able to access its files via smb protocol when the Mac is asleep? this seems to be the case for the internal hdd.

Yes, that seems to work on my Mac. You would just add the external hard drive to the list of shared volumes/folders in File Sharing settings.

It would have to wake to accept the SMB connection. Whether that works would depend on your sleep settings. I have wake for network disabled on my sleeping MBP, and so would not expect it to accept incoming SMB connections when asleep.

thanks. wasn't sure if accessing an external hdd would wake up the Mac.
