I cannot access my fits files on my external disks, either a LaCie HD (ExFAT) or my USB key (NTFS) with IDL 8.7.3. All files have read access in principle. I have a 2019 MB pro running macOS 10.15.4 and am trying to read them with IDL 8.7.3 and readfits() or mrdfits().
I have no problem with another mac with High Sierra and the same version of IDL, 8.7.3: I can read my fits files from the USB key for example.
Any idea about what's going on with 10.15.4 on that? Is it a known problem, or just something easy to fix ? I've found nothing on the web. Thanks

PS: from a terminal, I can see my files in /Volumes/LaCie/myFITSfiles/*.fits on my 10.15.4 MB. And they are present also in the Finder.

Well, likely a problem from IDL8.7.3 with Catalina

Is it something to do with this warning on their website about issues with Catalina 10.15?

Even without understanding your issue, this was the first google link I clicked on.

Thanks. I know this warning, and even posted the issue I have on their forum, but got now answer (yet). Sorry if my first message wasn't clear. I guess it's a specific issue from IDL which cannot manage some new Catalina features. As I said, when using the same IDL code on a High Sierra machine, I've no issue. And with my catalina mac, if I need to acces and open a fits file on my external disk with another software than IDL, it works.
