I have just purchased a new mac mini server and plan to use it as a media center on my big screen tv. I plan to access the system through my macbook pro once the system is up and running.

My question is, I currently do not own a mouse and keyboard, do I have to purchase a mouse and keyboard just to get the system up? Is there a way I can go in remotely from my MBP with a mini straight out of the box?

hmmm, I think to get the system set up you'd need a keyboard and mouse. Screen Sharing won't be active until you've gone past the set up screen.

Buy (or borrow) the cheapest USB mouse and keyboard you can find ($20 ish).

Go into settings and turn screen sharing on.

Put KB & Mouse away.

I have the mini Lenovo KB/mouse combo thing ($50 ish), handy for occasional use from the sofa.

Or follow the directions for remote server setup.
