So, first time jailbreaking. I backed up my iphone 5 with ios 6 before jailbreaking. I just plugged my phone into my computer, and itunes automatically backed it up, as I forgot to disable the auto backup. If I click restore from backup, it doesn't show me the previous backup to restore from, simply the one i just backed up. Am I screwed, or is there a workaround?

You generslly want to have your JB phone backed up. For one thing, it's a backup. For another, it even includes your settings for tweaks.

When I upgraded JB 5.0.1 to JB 6.1, I backed up my JB phone, and restored to 6.1 from that backup. It was at that point nonJB. I JBed it, and as soon as I installed FolderEnhancer, all my icons automatically went back in the multipage folders right where they had been previously.

Why are you worried?

The jailbroken backup is still a normal backup. Given it does have residue of jailbroken tweaks, but restoring a phone from that backup won't reinstate the jailbreak. It will function normally.

To jailbreak it, you'll have to go to through the jailbreak process with evasi0n again

under which circumstances would you want to use a backup on a jailbroken phone anyway?

i certainly wouldn't feel comfortable doing one; nor have i ever read anyone doing anything but a factory restore and starting over if something has gone horribly wrong.

everyone recommends you to backup your phone, but no one ever uses those backups.

just keep everything on your Mac or PC and sync along.

:eek:OMFG. Will the phone explode?!?! I can't avoid to buy another one! Will it void warranty? Will Apple blacklist it?

I back up all 4 of my jailbroken devices in iTunes about everyday.

What are you concerned about ?
If you wanted to save your pre-jailbreak profile/backup, you have to select set up as new and give the phone a new name so it doesn't overwrite the existing profile.

Don't worry. I backup my phone regularly even though its jail broken. It will only backup your data. Don't sweat it!

If this phone happens to cause any problems and need a new replacement phone, it's ok to backup from the jb phone I had. The jailbreak won't re install. Just your data.

I never restore from a backup either. I use Applist so I can easily remember which tweaks were installed. Everything else I want to keep is backed up on dropbox, icloud, or gmail. So whatever happens I don't have to worry about losing anything critical.

Giving the phone a new name doesn't prevent overwrites of existing backups. iTunes identifies backup by device ID, regardless of what name you give the device.

In order to preserve a pre-jailbreak backup, you have to copy the backup to another location. I forget where the backup files are located on your computer, hopefully someone else knows.

For me...ALL circumstances? Why wouldn't I want to restore from backup? Do you think I want to re-enter all my account information for every app? DO you think I want to lose all of my game progress in every game? Do you think I want to have to remember every app I had installed, and where I had it organized?

You may, I do not. When the next iOS update is available/jailbroken, I will back up, restore fresh, re-jailbreak, and restore my backup (or invert the last two). Heck, I'll probably buy PkgBackup to easily restore all my JB data too.

Same here. I've been restoring from backups probably since I jailbroke my iPhone 3G after it first came out. I can't recall a single time I've ever set the phone up as new.

You backup so you don't have to do all of that stuff over and over, and it works perfectly. Why not use it?
