Account Expiration Confusion

I know I got my 30 day extension but I am confused about the following:


On Account Summary I see:

Your free trial will end on Oct 8, 2008.

Account Type Free Trial
Expiration Date Oct 8, 2008 <-- includes 30 day extension


BUT on Account Options I see:

Total $99.00/year
20 GB storage, 200 GB monthly data transfer ...
Your subscription will begin on 09/10/08

Has anybody else seen this? I wonder which one they will use.

I haven't seen this, and my (still trial) account is consistent. They credited me 30 days, even though I never got a letter, and that's reflected in both the expiration date and subscription start date. Perhaps you should try clearing your cache? (I don't think that'll work, but it's worth a try.)

No help and I tried 3 different browsers (I am testing with Safari, Firefox, IE7). Funny, I got the extension on or about 8/16/2008 but never notice that only 2 of the 3 dates has changed (never even saw the third date).

I just check MobileMe Preferences and it shows Member Since July 10, 2008 and "Your Account will expire in 60 days". If you click on Account Details it takes you to the Summary Page.

Strange.

The OP was probably reading 09/10/08 as September 10th, month/day/year, as we write the date.

Well, I hope you are right. However, I am in the US and so is Apple and the US Date format is normally mm/dd/yy.

However, if they wanted to use the DD/MM/YY format then why did they use the following. Which is not your format above. Right?

It looks like it was written in two formats:

One was with the month spelled out (3 characters) and the other was with the "/" dividers.

If not sure, please contact Apple to verify.

More Confusion with 60 day extension

Member since July 10,2008 (the day I started my trial).

I now have my 60 day extension. (after orignal 60 + 30)

So, is 08/12/08 the end of my 1st 30 day trial (Edit: this makes no since - trial was 60 days in the begining). And if/when I convert to purchase will that be my start date? I think so. But why did I lose 30 days?

My guess is nobody (even Apple Support) knows for sure. I did check with them on this and they could only say that my free trial will end on the first date above and to ignore the subscription will begin on date. I checked prior to getting this last extension.

I do. Apple changed my subscription start date from 10/10/08 to 9/12/08. I now have no extensions whatsoever (well, except for the expiration date).

I was going to subscribe, but I think I'm now going to drop-kick MM. I only need the push services, and I can get those elsewhere.

Lordy. You didn't lose anything, your free trial will end on the 7th December and your paid subscription will start on the 8th December. The same is true for Tlewis, whose paid subscription date now (9th December) is actually later than his original one (10th October) by, you guessed it, 60 days. Why is that so hard to understand?

Actually you may be right now that it has happen twice.

3. I contacted Apple Support Chat and they said that there have been "glitches" in the extensions and my trail will end on the first date and I should ignore the other date. They did not understand it either.

4. I heard from others (and maybe on the Apple Site) that when you convert from trial to purchase your first year includes the free trial period. I.E. Your first year is < than 1 year.

I think you're right, they've confused the US and rest of world date formats in their correspondence. I never noticed that since I'm used to the UK way of writing the date anyway.

Er.... why dont you just check it out from your MMe System Preferences Pane? It shows month in the "Month Name" format so that shouldnt be a problem!

Where? I am a Windows User. In MobileMe Preferences on Windows it does not show the second date. Only the Expiration Date.

FROM THE EXTENSION FAQ on apple

I have an activation key. Will I lose my extension if I apply the key now?
If you are currently in your trial period, you will lose the remainder of your trial period —including any extensions— as soon as you apply your activation key. If you already have a paid subscription, you can enter your key at any time and Apple will automatically apply the key to renew your subscription after your extension period expires.

Has anyone read this?

If you are in a free trial, you lose it and the extensions, when you apply a paid activation code. If you are in a previously paid subscription, you are OK.

Therefore, If you are in a free trial, don't apply any paid subscription code until the last day of the trial/extension.
