ACD 23" with Apple TV?

My goal:

A bedroom system with a monitor (don't want something PAL/NTSC or UK/USA specific and don't need an internal tuner) to hook up to an AppleTV.

I don't want an ugly monitor in my bedroom with names and logos all over it.

The ACD is overpriced, but it is nice, attractive and space-efficient compared to TVs. How would it be as a TV? Does it have speakers? Would HDMI>DVI yield acceptable images? It would also be nice to be able to attach the MBP there when I want.

Other ideas?

The ACD is the worst possible thing for a situation like that. Get a real monitor that has more inputs then DVI. Check out the Dell 24 or the Gateway 24, both (in my opinion), better monitors, cheaper, and better connected.

The ACD doesn't have speakers, it doesn't have any inputs except DVI (the others all have Component, composite, svideo, vga, all the goodies). The resolution is also so high that the AppleTV content really wouldn't look very good.

Agreed, go with a Dell 24" -- Very nice, and still stylish.

The Apple TV won't drive a 23" Cinema Display as it is too high a resolution. I don't know about the DELL but make sure it supports a 720p input.

Dell has a "good enough" scaler, but its leaps and bounds better then the ACD's. It will take 720P over component or HDMI->DVI.

Quite a bit cheaper than the ACD at $300

Why would you buy a computer monitor for use only as a TV?

I believe the 23" ACD will accept a lower resolution signal over DVI, but at what quality I cannot say. Most computer monitors lack decient hardware scalers because they are designed to be run at their native resolution only. The ACD also doesn't have speakers.

I would recomend a Westinghouse 32w6 32" LCD TV, it has been very highly reviewed and has excelent picture quality.

That's exactly what my AppleTV is hooked up to. It looks excellent - far better than the Sonys in Apple Stores. It's also a very nicely priced TV. I don't think you'll have a problem with its looks either.

The speaker is good enough not to require any external speakers, but if you want to go that route, there's plenty of inputs and outputs on this thing.

I have to say, I purchased a 32" HANSpree HDTV for my AppleTV in the bedroom and have been extremely pleased.

It was the lowest cost TV at the time ($499) for that size and its actually one of the nicest TVs in terms of the case as well as the layout and look and feel of the UI (I've looked at quite a number of TVs and I can't believe how horrible their menuing systems are!).

The picture is actually quite good on this TV as well for the price.

i might be lost but i don't see the point of connecting an appletv to a cinema display. i buy tons of tv shows on itunes and i download them to my laptop, and then i watch them on my cinema display. if you're going to get an apple tv box, you should be more economical and buy a real tv. for the price of a cinema display you can get a much larger television.
