Acer's Iconia W700 Ivy Bridge Windows 8 Tablet: The Start of Something Big

This is an interesting read about Acer's upcoming Windows 8 Tablets. The W700 has an Ivy Bridge processor. Anand liked what he saw. It has a Thunderbolt port and a USB 3 port. He feels the TB port gives it a lot of potential, from tablet to notebook to desktop use. Check it out and share your thoughts and comments. Intel is quite involved with this and will probably nail their part. It looks to me like the biggest thing that needs to get nailed on the head will be Windows 8. Will Microsoft do it properly?

Interesting article and certainly a neat looking tablet from Acer. Competition in the tablet market is a good thing. Certainly nothing up to this point has seemed a threat to the iPad's dominance of the market. Maybe Windows 8 and tablets like this Acer W700 will make the market more competitive and spur continued advancements in development as everyone tries to improve what they are producing. I think the biggest challenge is catching up on the App side of things. Developers know they have a huge audience with iOS. Can Windows 8 bring them the same opportunities for success?

A friend has an Iconia Tab from Acer...I don't like the Android O/S but the device itself has a quality feel, a nice screen and is well made. It sure beats most of the cheap plastic offerings I've seen elsewhere.

As posted...It's going to down to MS to get Windows 8 right...And nobody knows for sure that they will as yet.

That thing looks awesome. I just realized how ideal a Tablet+Docking Station w/ Keyboard and a connected Graphics Card could be if done right.

No mention on battery life.

If it gets 8 hours REALISTIC usage, than it will definitely be a contender. But my educated guess would tell me it gets more like 3-5.

I've actually been using Windows 8 and enjoy it a lot more than Windows 7, which I also enjoyed. It uses a lot less system resources, boots in 10 seconds, and looks better. Takes some getting used to, but once that occurs it is a great OS.

The Official stated battery life is 8 hours, but we'll see.

It would be great if they can get 8 hrs battery life out of realistic use. If Intel is heavily involved in this project, they may try to set the standard like they did with the Windows ultrabooks. Personally I feel confidant that Intel will do their part and do it well. And if Microsoft uses it brain trust properly, they can do a great job too. But will they? That remains to be seen. If they can do with Windows 8 what they did with 7, we should have some good competition in this field. If they hit a home run, Android may be the odd man out in the tablet OS system market.
