I have the first gen MacBook aluminum unibody with snow leopard. If I get an external monitor with a resolution that meets the resolution of the new retina books, I can make the settings power the full resolution of my external monitor, yes? Am I mistaken anywhere?

Thanks

I don't know of a monitor that matches the 15 inch's 2880x1800 resolution.

I figured that might be the case. Was more so curious to see if it worked conceptually.

Thanks

Theoretically it should work - couple of things though:

1: Graphics cards usually have a max resolution they can output. You'd need to check the specs for the card in your laptop

2: I don't know whether "retina" is for specific resolutions only? (the whole 4:1 thing for scaling and all that)

Cheers
