So, my ibook power cord has been on the fritz for awhile now, with the part toward the end being so frayed that a lot of wire is exposed. Recently, it's started charging and then going back onto battery power and then back again with just a little movement. I just got myself a new power cord/supply today, and I figured that would take care of the problem. It hasn't.

In fact, the old power supply is the only one that's actually still capable of charging. The new one just won't charge or light up at all, despite initially powering up okay. Now it occurs to me that I have a major problem on my hands.

If this can't be fixed, it seems like it'll be junkyard time for this ibook :(.

that often happened to me with my old iBook G4, but the strange thing is, there wasn't anything wrong with the charger cable, etc. it could be (going out on a limb here) that you didn't cycle the battery every 2 months or so (drain battery, sleep for 5+ hours, restart, charge to full), or just that it's an iBook, and it's trying to tell you that you need a MacBook (Pro). hope this helped. :D
