Hey, Im Fairly new to Acquisition and fairly new to downloading and listening to music on the net, since I know little to nothing aboout music files I have a quick question. I downloaded a song and it was m4a. I thought music files were only MP3 or WAV. Is this m4a a good file and is it actually a music file?

M4A stands for MPEG 4 Audio which is relatively new. It is the new replacement for the older MP3 and it is of better quality and smaller in size.

Should be a good file, and Acquisition is a stable product.

However, being new to the Forum, you should be aware that discussions of illegal downloads is not condoned here by the Mods.

You are allowed to discuss peer to peer products, etc., but not illegal activities. Just make sure that your discussions are generic, and you will be fine.

Welcome to the Forum.

oh okay, sorry about that.

Your post wasn't a problem, don't misunderstand. Your question is fair and valid, and I hope you got the answer you were looking for...

I was just making you aware of the fine line that is walked around here concerning P2P. Many new posters coming in have been burned by discussing things that are prohibited here, and I just wanted to gently steer you away from that at the start so that you could focus on your real question.

Welcome to the Forum, and I hope you continue to contribute to the community.

I generally advise people against the use of P2P networks altogether.

Dowloading questionable files from unknown sources puts your system at risk.

While there is still little threat of an OSX virus, one must be aware of
a possible "sudo" trojan attached to an installer file.

This trojan waits for an administrators password authorization and can be
"in theory" piggybacked to other seemingly harmless files.

So far there is only a proof of concept sudo trojan, but eventually
someone will attempt to exploit those who are less than cautious
about what they download.
