Right,

So when this 'New' nMP is released. How should we all abbreviate it?

cMP = Classic / Cheesegrater 2006-2012
nMp = Garbage can

  • "nnMp"?
  • "New"nMP?
  • "We f**ked up MP"?
  • "pls no switch to windows MP"

Will the nMP be renamed to tMP (trash mac pro)?

Nothing inherently wrong with release year naming scheme, but the same generation might get bumps over a few years so you still want the 'generation' classification.

cMP, nMP, mMP and then if you wanted to cMP09 or mMP18 and mMP20.

Apple's own internal designation like 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1 sees quite a bit of use, but most people would probably figure out the actual model quicker if it said nMP13, as long as they had a basic understanding of what the abbreviation stood for in the first place.

Apart from that the obvious choice seems to be MacP0rn.

cMP, nMP, pMP. The p stands for potential.
On release it will become the nMP and the old nMP will become the MPm. Mac Pro mini.

This thread wouldn't be needed if Apple would simply include some clue about the hardware version in the product name.

Note how saying "Z840" so quickly identifies a real workstation, and distinguishes it from a Z800 or Z820....
