Hi guys, I have a quick question, i purchased an iPhone 2g new in box on ebay, along with a new tmobile sim activation kit. The only issue that I am having is while I am trying to activate the sim, T-mobile asks for a phone serial number, but I don't have that. Any suggestions, do I just put the iphone serial number?

Is this iPhone unlocked (hacked) for t-mobile? Or is is locked to T-Mobile?
You can try the serial number, but it might be asking for the IMEI number. Try entering the SN, and if it won't allow that, then try the IMEI. If that doesn't work, T-Mobile would most likely know how to solve that issue.

What country do you live in?

If the US, yeah, you should just call T-Mobile and explain the situation -- they should either activate the SIM or just arrange to send you one. (As above, if the phone isn't unlocked now, you'll need to do it yourself, which is very easy).

T-Mobile USA doesn't "provision" phones like the CDMA companies, so they don't have to activate the phone in any way to make it work on the network. They just have to put the SIM on an account. They're very good generally about things like you buying a phone on eBay and shouldn't give you a hard time.

If you're not in the USA, I dunno, although I'd guess you likewise should call T-Mobile in your country.

actually, I kind of figured it out. I basically input a sidekick IMEI into the online activation process when it asked me and everything worked out perfectly got my phone number and everything and my iphone was already unlocked so awesome.
