im surprised you didnt see all the commotion but just use the ziphone approach. Just go to zibris blog and download from there the gui of your choice and unlock. The gui is straight forward.

There was a commotion? I got the GUI one but was wondering if I could do it since its not OTB.

Why not? Perhaps the OP wants to change carriers or go abroad and not pay roaming fees.

Exactly. I was over seas and even with both of the roaming data and call plan, my bill came up to be $800. The base bill as at $300.

I couldnt help but not use it.

I restored in itunes than used Ziphone and now its unlocked. beautiful.
Thanks!

I have one of my 1.1.3 iPhones unlocked so that I can use an AT&T GoPhone sim in that phone. If it's not unlocked, the iPhone tells me that it's an invalid sim. Used to work under 1.1.2 without unlocking.

I chose the GoPhone (pay as you go) plan when I activated my current iPhone which is still factory. Did you not go that route to keep your number?
